Limited edition Black Pearl yarn was created for Vogue Knitting magazine’s 30th Anniversary and featured in its fall 2012 issue.
Crushed pearl powder from real pearls is permanently bonded to Tencel (made from eucalyptus trees). The resulting yarn is luminous and velvety to the touch. It has a gloss, similar to silk, but with a bit more iridescence.
Each skein of lace weight Black Pearl has a generous 930 yards, enough to make a beautiful shawl. Love of Knitting magazine selected Black Pearl as yarn of the month in its “Year of Yarn” 2014 campaign. A leading knitting designer said, “Knitting with Black Pearl yarn is like working with jewels.”
Why is it going away forever?
The New Zealand company that makes Black Pearl announced in 2013 that production would cease.
We bought out all remaining Black Pearl stock from Yarn Sisters.
